Grades 4-6 Water Quality Monitoring
Sandy Ground Historical Museum in Queens: Historical quilts offer a look at the history of oystering in Staten Island. "This unique museum and library examines the life and history of freed Blacks who settled in the area before the Civil War, establishing the first community of freed slaves in North America."
Chesapeake Bay Foundation's fantastic time-lapse Oyster filtering video
"Oysters provide much-needed filtration of Chesapeake Bay waters, habitat for other aquatic life, and a modest commercial harvest. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation estimates the native oyster population to be as low as 4 percent of historic levels. Restoring the Chesapeake's native oyster population is key to bringing back the Bay's health."
